Graphic design is a general term encompassing the various disciplines focusing on the visual aspects of communication and presentation, whether it is to relay a message or merely to please the senses. Throughout history, different methods in various media have been used to graphically present different things to audiences, thus recording the culture, trends, and sensibilities of the people during that certain period of time. Graphic design evolves through the progression of technology and the changing of people’s mindsets and perceptions about the world around them.

It is not merely static with set rules and principles, but a dynamic artform that is all about reaching towards an audience and their subjective experience through their sense of sight and ability to interpret and comprehend representations of objects, symbols, and figures. The different techniques involved in depicting these representations may be combined or separate, depending on the purpose of the finished product and the designer who created it. Such images are created from concepts and ideas that may yield many results, depending on how the designer interprets them and translates them into a physical representation through their intended medium.

The different aspects of graphic design, including imaging, typography, layout, interface, publishing, and many others pertaining to the process of creating a finished product have always been going through constant change and evolution with the progression of technology and understanding of how the human mind works regarding things that they see. The images that are seen, the words that are read, the symbols that are interpreted, and the way they are arranged all need to be created through a methodical creative process to maximize space, resources, and imagination.

All of this may lead one to scramble with multiple abstract and metaphysical concepts that may kill most people’s brain cells, but one thing must be understood by all graphic artists. To become a good graphic designer, one must attain five things – technical proficiency, innate creativity, willingness to experiment, understanding of his audience’s perspective, and a deep passion for his craft. All of these things must be attained to be a true graphic designer.

Future Routers with Interesting Design and Add-On Functions

An internet router is a networking device that works to routing and forwarding information by locating two or more logical subnets. Internet routers are pretty plane and boring devices, with nothing but their little flashing lites. But today, with the creations of Goldsmiths University in London, new internet routers with more interesting and contemporary design.

London’s Goldsmiths University, in collaboration with Talk Talk, the country’s largest home broadband provider, has been working on innovating and designing routers that can possibly be the routers of the future with signal strength, home style, energy efficiency and pure enjoyment in mind.

Route O’Clock is an internet router designed with colored lites that show the strength of internet connection throughout the day. The concept intends to convey periods of free flowing or lumpen bandwidth which gives users the idea on when might be the best time for downloading or playing an online game. Route O’Clock is equipped with twenty four glowing segments that displays the internet signal strength as time goes by. That is achieved by dividing the twenty four hour clock into half hourly segments with different traffic light colors at each interval.

This way, energy and money can be saved. It double functions as a router and a key rack. Once the last set of keys is removed from it, the router’s power automatically stops. That is by taking the idea that hen all the keys are removed, everybody has probably left the household and no internet connection would be needed.

Graphic Design: Image Based

Since graphic design is a field where your creativity and knowledge with technology is constantly exercised, being open to the broad spectrum of its possibilities is a must. So here, I will enumerate on one of the most common types of graphic design and it is called the image – based design. This type refers to when designers use only photographs as their main medium. Since it is referred to as image based, there are little to no words at all seen in this type.

They use it to convey whatever message they were assigned to do. As I said, it is one of the most common types of graphic design because image is a very powerful and compelling tool. And the right manipulation of it can actually make it work for or against you. And as one image can say a thousand words, one picture can also make or break a graphic designer’s career. That is how powerful a tool image is in the industry. So, how can you be sure that the image – based design you are working on is good? Well, contrary to popular belief not only information is given by this type of design. Aside from the trivial things, emotion and mood must also come through. Why is that anyway? Because, people (or whoever your target audience is) will be more able to relate when the picture in front of them is expressing human emotions familiar to them. Not only will it look more authentic and real but it will also certainly tug on the consumer’s heartstrings that will create a certain niche in the said market. Yes, it will take time to master this kind of graphic design but with patience and perseverance, you should get the hang of expressing a thought with just one mesmerizing picture.
