PSP Go

As one of the leading innovators of technology, Sony finally decided to take their portable gaming console to a new level. Said to be launched in October this year, the latest evolution of the Sony PSP will be called as the PSP Go. It will sport a 3.8 inch display (but the resolution of it is still undisclosed). Even though it looks heavy, it is said to weigh about 43 % lighter than the PSP 3000. It will allow a 16 gb flash storage with built in Bluetooth that supports handset tethering and BT headsets which can enable one to even use skype to chat with friends even on the go. There is no UMD drive but a memory stick slot is provided. It will also have a full play station network support for movies, tv show rentals and other purchases (but all this still depend on the down load speeds). Just like the PSP 3000, it can also be integrated with the play station3. But the most obvious change this PSP went through is that now, it has an easy – slide panel unlike other PSP’s before. Available in two colors: piano black and pearl white, it will also feature a game sleep function that will allow the user to activate the XrossMediaBar while game playing is temporarily suspended. Deemed as the smallest yet mightiest PSP system yet, it will retail around $ 250. Some say it’s ugly, while others claim it’s a must have. But for sure when the fall of 2009 arrives, a lot of people will line up just to get a chance to be one of the first few to own a product like this. Definitely something to look forward to in the coming months, let’s just wait and see how great of a contender this PSP Go will be compared to other PSP products and of course to other game console brands.

Yuruppy, an Upgraded Version of Tamagotchi

17

Remember Tamagotchi, our digital pet friend from Japan? It was such a hit during the mid-90′s after its creation in 1996 by Aki Maita. As of 2008, over 70 million Tamagotchis have been sold. Who would have guessed that a digital pet, completely in electronic state, housed in a small and simple egg-shaped mini computer for hatching, feeding, sleeping and eventually dying or flying away, would be adored by many? Presented with only three buttons, A, B, and C, users are able to feed the Tamagotchi with any piece of food or snack, play games, clean up the digital pet’s waste, check its age, hunger, discipline, happiness and other stats as well as connect with other friends.
While its fame rested for a while, it seems that Tamagotchi went into a little upgrade to better fit in modern times. Get over Tamagotchi and welcome a new digital pet, Yuruppy! Yuruppy, is an upgraded version of Tamagotchi created by Takara Tomy.
Yuruppy bears a lot of similarity with Tamagotchi, only this time, it is equipped with a touchscreen. There are no more buttons to press, users simply have to rub their fingers their fingers on the screen. Imagine it as caressing your digital pet as if it was real. Aside from the touchscreen functionality, color and face are aslo improved. A puppy, a kitten and a chicken are the pet choices you have. Unlike Bandai’s Tamagotchi, Yuruppy requires no care, except for caressing it every once in a while. Also, users can play with Yuruppy in a total of 14 mini games.

Yuruppy has been released in June already. It is expected to be released in other countries this July. If you want to get one for yourself, the standard version retails for $21 while the Yuruppy Deluxe version with a larger screen costs $38.

iPod Mini with Wooden Case, Clickwheel and Dock

192433

Apple’s iPod is gadget, a thing about being hip and cool. But designer Josh D begs to disagree. Showing his nature loving side, he redesigned his iPod mini with a cedar wood case, brass screws and plates. With the iPod mini he redesigned, he shows that you can give trees a handshake while listening to the tunes you go crazy for.

This iPod mini is something beyond retro. What he did was recycled his iPod mini, and completely changed its case to give it a greener appeal. Josh D has created other wooden cases for iPod. But this time, he went a little beyond that. His current iPod mini features wooden clickwheel and wooden iPod dock apart form its wooden cases.

This was a mini project Josh did to transform his somewhat outdated gadget into a natural and woodsy design. With his creativity and little help from his Dremel tools, he was able to use Australian Red Cedar for the case and Camphor Laurel for the clickwheel. As there are already iPods covered with wooden case, the wooden clickwheel is what makes his iPod different from the rest. The circular wooden piece was shaved down to a few millimeters thick to let the iPod’s sensor properly pick up the signal. . According to him, the wooden clickwheel works as good as the original plastic one. No glue at all was used in attaching its wooden parts. All of its parts are put together using brass screws both on top and bottom while its clickwheel is attached to the sensor by a double-sided tape.

To complete the natural aura, a recovered iTrip module in Light Red Cedar and iPod mini dock made from Camphor Laurel come with the iPod mini.

If you think about it, this redesigned iPod gives you the feeling of hugging a tree, aside from the fact that it fits in the palm of your hand. All in all, it is a beautifully finished recreation of Apple’s iPod mini which can probably outlast the plastic counterparts available in the market.
