With the latest Infrared Video Telephone technology, video call in complete darkness is now possible. Samsung, brings this technology via their latest product, Samsung SCH-W760 cellphone. Although it seems as a typical slider phone at first, better inspection will show that it features an additional and interesting function.

Samsung SCH-W760, which was first launched in Korea, is a mobile phone with 2.8 inch WQVGA AMOLED display, a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA network adapter, a conventional rear-facing 3 megapixel standard camera, DMB reception, Bluetooth connectivity and bears an 8GB internal memory plus an expansion slot for microSD for more space and a talk time of 4 hours and 360 hours on standby. These phone features are the usual, the additional feature is the infrared camera that lets users hold a video conference calls even in low-light environment. This was enabled by making the cam sensitive to infrared spectrum allowing grayscale video calls even in complete darkness.

Other specifications include FM Radio, GPS navigation, music player ( good for MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, MP4, eAAC+, MIDI, AMRNB and XMF), Email POP3, IMAP4, polyphonic ringer, push-to-talk and the usual phone features such as vibrate alert, calendar, calculator, to do list, voice recorder and the like. It weighs about 3.7 oz and measures 103 x 48 x 15.9 mm.

This is the first phone in the industry allowing video call with low-light. However, there is no news yet whether Samsung would be releasing it to other countries. So far, Koreans are the only ones who have SCH-W760 on market for $460.

This feature is pretty interesting, right? It’s good for giving your friends goosebumps with your grainy, low-res visage video call from your unlit closet. Also, it is something that can make your mobile phone different from the rest. Apart from that, what else use comes to your head?
