Project Nomad, Animal-like Robot that Feeds on Plants

116

When you look at it, it appears as a four-legged version of Bumblebee from the movie Transformers. But no, it is not Bumblebee.

What you can see in the picture is Project Nomad, an artificial horse. Before you get taken aback and be surprised that such creation is already available, know that this is still on its conceptual stage. Designed by Jason Battersby, Project Nomad is a project that aims to provide the “ultimate driving experience” to people. The concept is obviously about an animal-like shape robot, which can be used by humans for transportation instead of riding on actual animals such as horses. The rider on the animal-like robot sits atop it the way a person sits on a horse. Also, there are hand and foot controls that resemble those of a motorcycle.

If you are thinking that it might not be comfortable to ride on Project Nomad, well, we can’t tell that for sure. But as far as Jason Battersby is concerned, since the Nomad moves on its legs like a living being, it is very ideal for off-road rides and adventure trips. Still for safety precautions, the concept comes with a helmet and a survival pack for the rider intended for off-road adventure rides.

What makes Project Nomad more interesting is its GPS feature and the fact that it locates for best routes and locations for plant life. Are you wondering why? That is because Nomad eats up vegetation and uses it for fuel, just like a real horse does.
Talk about a futuristic concept, huh? Though it might be more eco-friendly than most current wheeled-vehicles, the plant-eating thing seems like a problem. In case Nomad is brought into actual production, real animals would have a robot competitor with their food. If that happens, we wouldn’t be planting trees to save the Earth, we would be planting them to feed Nomad.
