Television shows and movies are now using 3D technology—who says that laptops can’t make use of it too?
Acer has announced that they are currently working on a laptop computer that features a 3D screen of 15.6 inches.
Acer also stated that this new computer includes built-in software that will allow users to watch 3D movies in the proper manner. Also, users will be able to convert their 2D movies in a 3D format. The main users of this laptop by Acer are those involved in the movie and gaming scene, so that they can enjoy their favorite 3D movies and games on this unique technology. Over the last three years, more than a dozen Hollywood films were released in 3D format, including animated films such as Monsters vs. Aliens, Up, and Chicken Little. Gory and horror films such as My Bloody Valentine, Scar and Journey to the Center of the Earth were also created in 3D. For those who are into concert films, Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and U2 3D made use of the same technology.
This laptop will not be the first with 3D capabilities. Sharp launched the Actius RD3D in 2003, which had very similar 3D capabilities. Although the Actius RD3D was mainly directed towards architects, car designers, and other professions that need 3D rendering, the laptop was not very well-accepted by it’s target group. Later on, Sharp decided to discontinue the production of the laptop.
Other consumer electronics companies such as LG, Mitsubishi, and Samsung are currently working on televisions that have 3D screens.
In order for the 3D to be effective, the users of this first-generation laptop by Acer may still have to wear stereoscopic glasses. Hopefully, the stereoscopic glasses will no longer be needed for future models of this laptop. Acer’s 3D screen with laptop will be using Windows 7, and should be released by October of this year.
