The Pre: Palm’s Answer to the iPhone

For the past two years, the Apple iPhone was believed to be the best smartphone available in the market. It had several functions, and phones with a similar concept couldn’t quite reach the bar that the iPhone had set extremely high. But now, the Palm Pre has arrived.
Over the past few years, the Palm seemed to become a forgotten company. They used to be known for their products, but their name simply got lost in the sea of gadgets available. Now, Palm is back, and Palm is back with a vengeance. The Palm Pre is the latest touch screen smartphone, and is believed to have better technology than the iPhone does.
The iPhone only allows a user to open one application at a time. The Pre’s operating system is the WebOS, which allows its users to have several applications open at the same time. The programs on the Pre make up an array of bars that are sticking out from the screen. A user can open application after application simply by sliding their finger. A user can toggle between the calendar and their e-mail account with absolutely no problem.
The Pre’s surface is composed of extremely shiny, smudge-friendly plastic. Underneath this plastic is a TI OMAP3 processor, RAM, and about 8GB of storage. The phone has a sliding mechanism that reveals a QWERTY keyboard underneath, which is much easier to use compared to the iPhone’s touch screen keyboard.
The display on the Pre is just about equal in terms of resolution when compared to the iPhone, the G1 and Storm. The screen can be a bit of problem under direct sunlight because of the phone’s glossiness, but should be no problem when placed in the right angle.
The Palm Pre is extremely stylish to look at, and is very easy to use. Palm obviously took note of what people want accomplish with their phones, and figured out a way to let them do these things quicker.
