The engine that could be as big as Google.

A new revolutionary analytic knowledge engine that allegedly could be as important as Google will launch on May 2009. Much stir around the internet community has been about by the said engine. The engine “WolframAlpha” named after its controversial creator, the physicist Stephen Wolfram, is said to be able to answer natural language questions by analyzing its gigantic database of knowledge.
Wolfram clarified that “WolframAlpha” isn’t a search engine in the mould of Google. Instead, “WolframAlpha” is a computational knowledge engine that uses millions of algorithms, which Wolfram’s works are famous for, to manipulate data sources to come up with answers to queries. These data sources have been assessed either by automated systems or by humans themselves. The algorithms are modelled based on vast knowledge of different fields of human learning—science, geography, technology, weather, music, cooking, business and history to name a few. Plus, because it’s based on algorithms, systems, heuristics, rules and theorems, the engine can answer questions even if it hasn’t been programmed to do so.
The engine’s linguistic system is smart enough to comprehend the questions unlike Google which basically just retrieves information based on keywords. The engine’s language interface is capable of interpreting questions in plain language form and even those with abbreviated notations.
Wolfram stated, however, that his new analytic knowledge engine does not at all compete with Google. He said his engine may be as important as Google but serves a different purpose. Wolfram Alpha cannot substitute human opinion therefore if one is looking for a new car or choose a honeymoon resort, use Google in those types of situations. Wolfram Alpha is limited to answering factual questions. WolframAlpha’s goal instead is to do what Google did to informal knowledge for formal knowledge.
Wolfram’s engine is so daring that it could either be promising or disappointing. The internet and science community will soon be able to give the verdict whether Wolfram’s newest creation will be major scientific breakthrough or a very brilliant flop. Visit www.wolframalpha.com very soon.
