How To Stay on Top of the Web Design Industry

In the competitive environment of web designing, graphic designers need to keep up to current web designing trends to survive. Designers need to anticipate trends months in advance to be able to turn out competitive designs. The top web design agencies gave out some advice on how designers can stay on top of their game:

Watch the rise of the small screen. Graphic designers should be familiar with designing layouts for small screen if they want to keep their career alive. With the iPhone marking the dawn of a new era of mobile technology, creating designs for smaller screens should be anticipated.

Commit a portion of time to study new tech skills. Designers whose skills are too specialized face the threat of alienation from clients. Designers who aren’t willing to learn new tricks will have to face obsolescence. Learning web design techniques should be a never-ending process. Currently, JavaScript is the coding language every designer needs to master as it is now being used in a majority of websites.

Observe good typography. Appropriate type is necessary to come up with a well-designed layout. Type sets a structure and purpose for a design. Never overlook or belittle type in an online setting.

Put your extra-effort on the essential elements. Web designers need to focus on content, design excellence, user experience and usability. Standards exist for websites therefore designers who can’t focus on what’s really important will be left behind in the web design world.

Utilize existing frameworks. Coding libraries are available to help designers dedicate more time toward developing other aspects of a website. Programming something which already exists (or might already exist) wastes time.

Innovate and innovate…never stop innovating. Ceasing to innovate leads to mediocrity. Designers should always make an effort to be cutting-edge and fresh. Always re-invent your design, it’s the responsibility of every designer.

Expand client base. Many companies will be cutting budget due to the economic reasons which might leave you in a precarious position. Exert effort to appeal to a broader client base.

Seek to refurbish instead of relaunch. Clients would usually rather have their existing designs improved rather than re-hashed. To earn the client’s trust, be sensitive to their needs.

Apple to Acquire EA?

1

Apple is strongly considering into offensive into gaming industry or highly considering to venture into the gaming market. This information was from Guy Adami of CNBC’s Fast Money. He claims to have heard the company tossing the idea of and “chattering” about acquiring the publishing giant- Electronic Arts (EA)

The former senior director of Microsoft’s Xbox Bsiness for the insights and strategy field, Richard Teversham, has left to join Apple for the week. Bob Drebin was also spotted at Apple’s event, man who was responsible for the graphics processor in Nintendo GameCube. These strongly suggest the bold move, and not to mention major move from iPhonrs and iPods into the gaming business. These are just yet rumors, but if it were to be proven true, Apple’s ambitions appears to be far beyond just the handheld market.

Get the Most Out of Your Mac

17

When Apple decided to use Intel processors for the Mac, Mac users experienced speed and performance never before seen in Macs, even the average ones. The switch to Intel extended the average Mac’s lifespan by a lot…which leaves us with an interesting problem.

The Mac’s longevity (and maybe price) has left many users with old Macs that are showing signs of aging or simply put, they’re slowing down. And with Macs, upgrading the processor is too cumbersome and expensive to do. But other components are upgradable and there are several ways to speed up the Mac too which is why I’ve compiled tips below to do just that:

Clear the bootdrive. Macs need at least 20 percent of free space on the boot drive (Macintosh HD) to run effectively. If the boot drive has any less space, the system will slow down greatly no matter how high the specs are. Practice keeping large files like videos or music in an external storage. Invest in additional ports that allow you to plug-in more storage devices. Buying faster hard drives (higher rpm) will also be a good option.

Add RAM. RAM is a fundamental component that affects the speed of a computer. Although Mac OSX needs just 1GB RAM to run effectively, adding more RAM wouldn’t hurt. Around 2GB of RAM is recommended for normal systems but those engaged in editing pictures, videos and audio files will need much more.

Only include start-up items which are vital to you. If applications exist in your start-up that you don’t frequently use, it’s better to remove them from the Login items in your System Preferences. Examples of apps you should remove are printer-related apps that just slow your system during startup.

Run applications only if you’re using them. Leaving applications program open when not being used steals resources like RAM away from the programs you actually are using. Also, don’t over-install. Keep track of the programs you install and delete those you’ve stopped using. If you have the technical know-how, periodically re-formatting OSX will also speed up the computer.
