The push for greener living is now stronger than ever, and people are developing technologies that are eco-friendly. What look to be replaced next is our printers. The most problematic aspect of these printers is their ink systems: cartridge needs to be replaced every now and then. The RITI printer, by Jeon Hwan Ju from Korea, has a concept of a printer with a new ink system. Because the cartridge is often difficult to replace and are costly to be refilled, they have thought of a way to replace it.
The ink system is fed with coffee or tea dregs. The user places them into the ink case at the top of the printer. He then inserts a piece of paper in the middle, and then moving the ink case left and right and your image will be printed. A printer powered by leftover coffee and tea? Now there is finally a use for what is left in your coffeemaker after you are done drinking coffee.
This concept was submitted to the Greener Gadgets Design Competition. It is a competition that tries to promote the creation of new gadgets — with the emphasis on being eco-friendly. Then the top 50 entries are narrowed down and are voted by the public. The remaining ten will be judged at the McGraw Hill Conference Center in New York.
Right now, the coffee printer is currently a concept and there is no actual product yet. But we could be printing papers a few years from now using your home brew.
